Africa placement, discovery and matching platform

Build responsible placements together

Your organisation can help shape a meaningful volunteer experience.

Volunteer Africa works with credible hospitals, schools, universities, NGOs, conservation programmes, community organisations and responsible institutions to create supervised placement pathways that respond to genuine local needs.

Who can partner

Different organisations. One responsible standard.

Partnership models vary, but every opportunity must have a genuine purpose, defined responsibilities, suitable supervision and a safe operating environment.

Partnership principles

Responsible volunteering begins with responsible programme design.

We do not create placements simply to fill catalogue space. Opportunities must make sense for the organisation, the community and the applicant.

01

Community need comes first

Placements must support an identified organisational or community priority rather than creating unnecessary volunteer roles.

02

Roles must be properly supervised

Every opportunity requires an accountable contact, a defined scope and suitable day-to-day oversight.

03

Professional boundaries are protected

Applicants may only perform activities appropriate to their qualifications, experience, registration and approved placement scope.

04

Safeguarding is mandatory

Partners must support responsible conduct, confidentiality and protection of children, patients and vulnerable persons.

05

Expectations remain transparent

Capacity, dates, costs, responsibilities, support and operating conditions must be communicated accurately.

06

Partnerships are reviewed

Acceptance into the network is not automatic. Organisations and opportunities are assessed before publication or applicant matching.

The partnership journey

From introduction to active placement coordination.

The process is designed to protect your organisation, applicants and the communities involved.

  1. Initial interest

Tell us about your organisation, location, programme areas and the type of collaboration you are considering.

  2. Organisation review

Volunteer Africa reviews registration details, leadership, safeguarding, operational capacity and relevant documentation.

  3. Opportunity design

We define suitable activities, eligibility, supervision, duration, capacity, support requirements and applicant outcomes.

  4. Verification and agreement

Responsibilities, communications, policies, data handling and placement conditions are formally aligned.

  5. Opportunity publication

Approved pathways may be published in the Volunteer Africa catalogue with accurate availability and eligibility information.

  6. Applicant matching

Suitable applicants are reviewed against the organisation’s current capacity, dates, requirements and approved scope.

  7. Placement coordination

Confirmed applicants progress through documentation, preparation, arrival, orientation, monitoring and completion stages.

Partnership readiness

Is your organisation ready to host?

You do not need to have every detail finalised before contacting us. These questions help identify whether a responsible pathway can be developed.

  • Is your organisation legally established or formally recognised?
  • Can you identify a genuine programme need or learning objective?
  • Is there a responsible person available to supervise participants?
  • Can you provide a safe and respectful placement environment?
  • Are activities clearly defined and appropriate for the applicant profile?
  • Can you support safeguarding, confidentiality and data-protection requirements?
  • Can you communicate accurate capacity, schedules and operational changes?
  • Are you willing to complete verification and partnership documentation?

Partnership questions

Frequently asked questions

Does it cost an organisation to become a partner?

Initial partnership discussions and organisational assessment do not automatically create a fee. Any programme-specific operational, coordination or commercial arrangements are documented transparently before agreement.

Will our organisation immediately receive volunteers?

No. Partnership approval does not guarantee immediate applicants or placements. Matching depends on programme readiness, verified capacity, applicant suitability, timing and demand.

Can a partner accept or decline an applicant?

Yes. A placement only proceeds after the host organisation and Volunteer Africa have confirmed suitability, capacity, dates and the approved placement scope.

Can we host regulated or clinical programmes?

Potentially, but only where professional, licensing, supervision, insurance, safeguarding and legal requirements can be met. Applicants cannot perform duties beyond their approved competence.

Will our logo appear on the platform?

Verified partner profiles may be published after the organisation has completed the applicable review and agreed to public representation. Volunteer Africa does not publish unverified relationships.

Can universities create group or faculty-led programmes?

Yes. Universities may discuss electives, group placements, research exposure, field-learning programmes and customised institutional arrangements.
